BE INSPIRED. LUCIE BEATRIX - ULTRA RUNNER, MARATHONER, COACH

SOBRIETY // SPEED // STORIES

Running was my outlet to get sober. The faster my times got, the more rewarding it became to see how I could make something of myself to be truly proud of. While those PRs are fulfilling, it isn’t really about times for me as much as it is about the stories along the way. I’ve been writing about runners more than I’ve been out there racing, and anytime I’ve seen my name as a contributor to Tracksmith Running or more recently Runners World Magazine, it feels just as good, if not better, than breaking the tape at a race.

As I think back to my own major milestones, like that hot day I ran 76 miles straight around the McCarren Park track to celebrate one year sober, I remember all the people who came out to cheer me on going after my own challenge. Then, in seeing friends and teammates set goals and break records, even chasing Olympic Dreams — it is sharing that kind of personal determination that is truly magic!! And THAT is what running is all about.
